Types Of Lice

Lice are tiny, wingless, egg layingparasitic insects. They can only survive on human body. They are very small, pinhead size parasitic, which are living among human hair and feeds on few amount of blood drawn from the scalp. That moment, we can feel a pain. But, it is not a healthy hazard. Lice have 6 legs with well-built claws. They are few types, which are living on human body. They are:

lice types

  • Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis)
  • Body lice (Pediculus humanus corporis)
  • Public lice (Pthirus pubis)

Among those, the head lice are a common problem, especially for kids’ ages 3-12 years. It is more often among girls than boys due to their length of hair. Lice are not hazardous and never spread diseases. But, lice are infectious and just can be complete irritating. Child’s scalp to become itchy and red-looking by their bites .It can be lead to skin irritation and even bacterial infection. Therefore, it is good to treat for head lice speedily once the identification is made. Because, only young or adult lice can be spread easily from person to person and direct head to head contact with a person who already has head lice. As well as, lice can easily travel from child to child. So, teenagers are facing to that due to their behavior of gang or team and always engaging to game with those teams. That kind of social acts can lead of quick spreading of lice. Lice are highly transmittable, especially in group settings (Schools, Childcare centers, Slumber parties, Sports activities and camps, etc.). They cannot fly or jump, those small parasites have distinctively adapted claws that let them to creep and fit tightly firmly to hair. Head lice mainly build up their camp through head to head contact, but sharingcombs, brushes, clothing, bed linens and hats also helps tomove them. Kids and teenagers are majorvictims to catchlice because they normally have close physical touch with each other and generally share personal stuff. Electrostatic charge from dry hair flings head lice up to 1 meter. The human lice never transmission by dogs, cats and other animals. FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approved treatments, both prescription drugs (in the form of shampoos, creams and lotions) and over the counter medications is existing for the treatment of head lice infestation. Lice can be seen into naked eye as small black pinheads, by thoroughly examine on child’s head .As well as, there are other kind of parts in their life cycle. They also can be seen by our naked eye. Not only lice, but also nits are giving terrible irritating condition from our heads. Nits means “Eggs of head lice”, which are lying by mated female lice. They can lay eggs in many times during her life cycle after mated once.

Head lice feeding on our scalp

The head lice feed by using their rough teeth to access scalp skin at the root of a hair or backside of the ears. Lice then insert their snout into a blood vessel, along with anticoagulants and feed much like a fly. So, that feeding style can be a starting place of irritation and will lead to the itching or scratching feature of the infestation. The lice can only manage to survive on human blood and require symbiotic bacteria to give back for nutritional defect in the blood food. Lice can have several blood dinners per day broken up by resting periods between feedings. Even though head lice are feeding on human blood, they don’tspread any microbiological disease agent. At the secondary point of the irritating, bacterial infections from scratching and the psychological “pain” of the infestations are the leader human health issuesconnected with head lice.

Body lice
Body lice are another kind of lice, which are living on human being. They are called as “Cloth lice” also. Body lice are living and laying eggs on clothes and move to the skin only to feed. They have an ability to spread diseases. Pediculosis is the body lice infestation, which is spreading often by close person to person contact. But, that is not in common. It may be depends on the situation of that crowd living. If they are living under conditions of crowding and poor hygiene. Body lice are also never transmitting via dogs, cats and other pets. The body lice infestations can be control by improving hygiene and accessing to normal changes of clean clothes on human. At that point of my view, teenagers are paying their attention on other things than their personal hygiene. Not at all, but most youngest children are there. Always, they try to improve their external body appearance without any attention of their internal healthy. They are doing many artificial things to their body to shine in well appearance on society. But youngest are rare, which are paying more attention to their internal shining. However, these unfortunate habits will lead them to infection conditions of many in social.

Pubic Lice

But, people have public lice normally grievance are experienced. They have been given nick name as “crab public lice”. Public lice , like head and body lice , are parasitic insects which live in public or private parts of the human body. Pthirus pubis is the medical term of the public lice. This problem does not exist among one particular cultural group or area of the world

Life cycle of public lice

Life cycle is running approximately 23 days from laying eggs to mature adults. They can live only a maximum of two days outside of the host due to the fact that they are parasites, feeding on hosts’ blood.

Life cycle of lice

They can be found not only public areas, but also the armpits, chest, in the beard or mustache, even rarely on the eyebrows and eyelashes.
There are three stages on complete life cycle of public lice. They are nit, nymph and adult.
Nits are the eggs of lice. They can be found firmly wrapped around the hair shaft of the affected area and hatched within at least 6 – 8 days. Nits like oval shape and normally yellow to white in color. They can alive for up to 14 days only, once removed from a host.
The baby louse is called as a nymph, while leading hatching. They mature about 7 days after hatching.  They must feed on human blood to continue their life. Nymphs molt three times before they become adults.p

Adult public lice cannot live even 2 days, without a host. Adult lice are tan to grayish white in color and ranges from 1-2 mm in size. Generally, the female louse larger than the male louse. She can lay up to 40 nits at a time or 30 – 90 nits in her life period.Adult crab lice live approximately 30 days while on the host.

Adult public lice on host

Adults and teenagers are most prone to these crab lice problems than children. But, if they can be found on children it could be a sign of child abuse or medication. Dirty toilet seat is not a source of pubic lice because they would have been bifurcated from the host and ended from lack of nourishment. So teenagers should pay more attention to their life partner’s health also. As a regular caution, individuals who are infected with public lice must glance for medical attention as they also are a conveyor for sexually transmitted diseases.

Their infections give redness, inflammation and itchiness in the genitals or public area. You can be visible lice or crowded lice; however, they never travel in great numbers. But, lack of those crawling lice could be a sign of a person is heavily affected by the nits or eggs before hatching. And also, it can be observed that they have a custom to attach themselves to one hair follicle and the speed in which they crawl is much slower than their mates, the body and head lice.

This can get worse during nighttime when lice becomes functioning and lay to rest their heads inside public hair follicles to feed on a person’s blood. At times, inflamed and discoloredness of the infested area can be a result of lice biting due to a reaction of protein in the saliva of the lice. As well as, small, red bumps or sores came from scratching. Continuous scratching and itching can make the area to become raw which leads to another bacterial infection. However, scratching can lead the public lice to spread. Your doctor may be identified that case at the beginning, he or she may treat the infection with an oral antibiotic.

Lice eggs (called nits). These look like tiny yellow, tan, or brown dots before they hatch. Lice lay nits on hair shafts close to the scalp, where the temperature is perfect for keeping warm until they hatch. Nits look sort of like dandruff, only they can’t be removed by brushing or shaking them off.
